The Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) is an official identification number for individuals or entities with tax obligations in Indonesia. However, not everyone will remain an active taxpayer indefinitely. Under certain conditions, you can legally apply to deactivate your NPWP.

Common Reasons to Deactivate an NPWP

  1. No longer employed and have no income.
  2. Business has been closed or is no longer operating.
  3. The taxpayer has passed away.
  4. Does not meet the subjective/objective requirements under tax regulations.

How to Deactivate NPWP Online via DJP Online

  1. Log in to DJP Online using your NPWP and password.
  2. Select the e-Registration menu.
  3. Click “Application”, then select the application type: NPWP Deletion.
  4. Complete the form and upload the supporting documents, such as:
    • A statement letter declaring no income
    • ID card (KTP)
    • Retirement letter (if applicable)
  5. Submit your application and wait for confirmation from the tax office (KPP).
  6. The status will be processed, and you can monitor it through your e-Registration account.

How to Deactivate NPWP Directly at the Tax Office (KPP)

If you prefer to visit in person, follow these steps:

  1. Prepare the following documents:
    • Photocopy of your ID card (KTP)
    • NPWP deactivation request letter
    • Statement letter declaring no income
    • Other supporting documents (e.g., death certificate for deceased taxpayers)
  2. Visit the Tax Service Office (KPP) where your NPWP is registered.
  3. Submit all documents to the officer.
  4. You will receive a receipt of your application.
  5. Wait for the verification process, which takes up to 5 working days.

Status Change: Non-Effective vs. Deleted

  • Non-Effective Status: Temporarily assigned to taxpayers who no longer meet subjective/objective criteria. You are still registered as a taxpayer but are not required to file an annual tax return.
  • Permanent NPWP Deletion: If you genuinely no longer earn any income and meet the requirements, your NPWP can be permanently deleted.
